Gri"sa Mo"cnik:
Efficiency of B meson identification with kaon
tagging in the HERA-B spectrometer
Diploma thesis, University of Ljubljana
Abstract
For the CP violation measurement in the neutral B meson system as proposed
in the HERA-B experiment a highly efficient pion and kaon separation method
is needed. The high efficiency is important because of the B meson flavor
tagging with the kaon charge. An extended maximum likelihood method used for
identification of charged particles (mainly pi and K)
in the ring imaging
Cherenkov counter is described. The performance of the method as a function of
several crucial counter parameters is discussed.
